Separating or getting divorced

Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan and ending
a relationship feels like the best solution for all involved.

Separating or getting divorced

Perhaps you have come to terms with this emotionally, but the idea of being solely responsible for your incomings, outgoings, debts and future financial health is a little daunting. Or perhaps you just don’t know where to start.

There will be a number of practical things to consider, such as closing joint bank accounts and dividing the family home. If you have a will or life insurance policy, you’ll probably want to make some changes to the beneficiaries. You may also be entitled to some benefits to help you get back on your feet.

If you’d prefer to have someone to listen to your specific financial needs, to guide you and support you in your decision-making, please get in touch. Melanie has first-hand experience of your situation and has helped others to make a new start financially.

If you are looking for more than financial help and you need some support in processing the changes – whether emotional, financial or practical – The Money Guardian can help with this too. For more information please click here.

The government’s Money Advice Service is a good free resource, created to answer your questions and get you back on the road to financial independence. You can also get free advice on budgeting and managing debt from not-for-profit organisations such as Christians Against Poverty, (as recommended by Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, and Money Magpie, Jasmine Birtles).

Melanie, Director of The Money Guardian says:

“My role is to help my clients’ financial situation, both now and in the future. I do this by giving relevant and personal advice on mortgages, and offering protection for my clients and their families with the right insurances for them.

For times when a client needs support of a different kind, to help them move forward in their lives and plan for the future, I can recommend a good coach or a programme that will give them the right support for their circumstances. Please don’t be afraid to get in touch if the solutions you need are not purely financial”.

“As a self-employed painter and decorator, I was concerned, if I had an illness or injury and was unable to work, how this would affect me financially. Melanie was able to recommend suitable options including income protection and critical illness cover, explaining everything I needed to know. Melanie was helpful and friendly throughout the process and I would recommend her to anyone”.
